Sonoma Coast Chardonnay & Pinot Noir

The renowned Sonoma Coast is a ruggedly beautiful appellation where cool climate and rich soil produce exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Rodney Strong Sonoma Coast Chardonnay & Pinot Noir truly exemplify the region with singular taste profiles of Petaluma Gap & Green Valley. The Sonoma Coast is the largest AVA in Sonoma County. It reaches from San Pablo Bay all the way to Mendocino County with some vineyards mere miles from the Pacific Ocean.

The dramatic Sonoma Coast environment is challenging for grape growers, but well worth the effort as it produces distinct wines with exceptional complexity and true terroir characteristics unique to this region. Our new Rodney Strong Sonoma Coast varietals have been carefully crafted to deliver singular taste profiles reflective of this unique viticulture area.

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

The Petaluma Gap channels coastal fog and sea breezes to the vineyard in late afternoons where cool nights and warm days bring out the very best in our Chardonnay.  The longer, colder growing season produces elegant complexity and character delivering true to the appellation wines that are crisp and elegant.

Growing close to the bay leads to salinity in the soils which means lower yields, more concentrated fruit, and a hint of salinity in the wine. Our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is predominantly barrel fermented in new French oak, conveying a toasty vanilla and spice complexity within the wine.  The Sonoma Coast Chardonnay brims with notes of apple, pear, pineapple and lemongrass.

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Within Sonoma Coast sits Green Valley, a distinct region which is directly influenced by the Pacific Ocean. As the coolest part of Sonoma Coast, this region is cooled by the Pacific Ocean fog, and exhibits a unique soil type – Goldridge.  Green Valley truly delivers a lively, unique, and elegant Pinot Noir.

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, a third of them new. This medium-bodied wine starts with aromas of pomegranate, raspberry, and black cherry. With a palate filled with delicious plum, cola and cinnamon, this balanced wine exhibits crisp acidity followed by a smooth and silky finish.
