To craft this wine, our winemaking team carefully blends individual Chardonnay lots from time-tested, meticulously farmed blocks of some of our very best vineyards. Each lot is vinified separately in the finest barrels in our small lot “Winery Within the Winery” facility. After malolactic fermentation is complete, select lots are assembled in tank, then returned to barrel to fully integrate flavors during the final aging process. The 2009 season was long and mild – ideal for cool-climate Chardonnay. We began harvesting our reserve Chardonnay lots on September 11 and completed by September 26.
Reviews
“92 Points- A rich, creamy style that features ripe fig, peach and honeydew melon, with broad, expansive texture and good length. Retains its elegance and finesse, ending with a smoky roasted marshmallow note. Drink now through 2018. ”
- Wine Spectator February 2012
“93 points - It leads with a deep, well-fruited nose of juicy apples, creme brulee and subtle notes of sweet blossoms.”
- Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine
“90 Points - Rodney Strong’s 2009 Chardonnay Reserve is a gorgeous wine laced with apricots, tangerine, mint, flowers and spices. The aromas and flavors are given additional dimensions of volume through aging in French oak barrels (26% new) and full malolactic fermentaion.Though quite lush at first, the wine finds its minerality and focus on the finish. ”
